چکیده
I will not be too long before rooftop solar panels will become a preferred option for new construction of houses in the U.S. and elsewhere. Many recent projections of new energy installations predict a surge in wind and photovoltaic (PV)based installations during the next 25 years. The availability of affordable PV panels is rendering the installation of solar panels on residential rooftops a more common occurrence in the U.S. and elsewhere. According to the recently released Solar Marketplace Intel Report by Energy Sage (https://www. energysage.com/news/energysage-marketplace-intel-report), the average gross cost of PV installation now ranges from $3.21 to 4.37 per watt, with an average payback time of 7.5 years. In 2015 alone, homeowners with installed PV units met ∼85% of their electricity needs.

In- and Ga-based inorganic double perovskites with direct bandgaps for photovoltaic applications.
Double perovskites in the form of A2B'B''X6 (A = Cs, B' = Ag, B'' = Bi) have been reported as potential alternatives to lead-containing organometal trihalide perovskites. However, all double perovskites synthesized to date exhibit indirect bandgaps >1.95 eV, which are undesirable for photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications. Herein, we report a comprehensive computer-aided screening of In- ...
متن کاملLead‐Free Hybrid Perovskite Absorbers for Viable Application: Can We Eat the Cake and Have It too?
Many years since the booming of research on perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the hybrid perovskite materials developed for photovoltaic application form three main categories since 2009: (i) high-performance unstable lead-containing perovskites, (ii) low-performance lead-free perovskites, and (iii) moderate performance and stable lead-containing perovskites. The search for alternative materials t...
متن کاملThe merit of perovskite’s dimensionality; can this replace the 3D halide perovskite?
This perspective paper focuses on the dimensionality of organic–inorganic halide perovskites and their relevant advantages over 3D perovskites. The charges in two-dimensional (2D) materials are restricted in their movement to the two-dimensional plane; however, their confined structure allows one to tune the optical and electronic properties by varying their thickness. Here we focus on the main...
متن کاملRelativistic GW calculations on CH3NH3PbI3 and CH3NH3SnI3 Perovskites for Solar Cell Applications
Hybrid AMX3 perovskites (A = Cs, CH3NH3; M = Sn, Pb; X = halide) have revolutionized the scenario of emerging photovoltaic technologies, with very recent results demonstrating 15% efficient solar cells. The CH3NH3PbI3/MAPb(I(1-x)Cl(x))3 perovskites have dominated the field, while the similar CH3NH3SnI3 has not been exploited for photovoltaic applications. Replacement of Pb by Sn would facilitat...
متن کاملPressure-induced dramatic changes in organic–inorganic halide perovskites
Organic-inorganic halide perovskites have emerged as a promising family of functional materials for advanced photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications with high performances and low costs. Various chemical methods and processing approaches have been employed to modify the compositions, structures, morphologies, and electronic properties of hybrid perovskites. However, challenges still remain...
